Healthier Chocolate Cake

Do you have a sweet tooth or craving for homemade chocolate cake but don’t need all of the sugar and calories that go with it? 

Try this healthier (but still sweet, moist and melt in your mouth delicious) chocolate cake. We swapped out the oil and butter and subbed in our Golden Applesauce and also added sweetness with ripe bananas instead of sugar overload.

Healthier Chocolate Cake: 

3 ripe bananas 
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup Wacky Apple applesauce, golden variety 
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 egg
1 cup all purpose flour 
1/2 cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
1 teaspoon – baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup chocolate chips, semisweet or dark 

Directions: 

Grease an 8×8 pan with a bit of coconut oil. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, mash bananas. Add in the brown sugar and mix until the sugar is blended into the bananas. 
Add the applesauce, vanilla, and egg. Mix together.

Add in the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt to the wet ingredients and mix until incorporated. 

Fold in the chocolate chips and pour batter into your prepared baking dish. 
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Best eaten warm and right out of the oven.
